Step 15 Option 1 - USB Connector Board

At this point you have two choices.  The simplest option is to use the Micro USB Header that you can plug a Micro USB Cable into.  The biggest challenge here is that the connector can be fragile at times and if you pull on the USB cable at an angle when it is plugged in to the board, you can pop off the surface mounted USB connector (good luck trying to solder it back on).  However, this does give you the most flexibility in what cables you plug into the board.

For the USB header route, follow the directions on this page.  For the alternate USB Cable, just skip to the next step.

Insert the 5 pin header into the board with the shorter side toward the front of the tree. Flip the board over to solder it in place from the front and then flip the board back over. Put the USB circuit board on the pins so that it is flat against the plastic piece on the pins with the USB connector facing the bottom of the tree and then solder it. Note that the board will be slightly lifted from the back of the board in order to accomodate some of the larger USB connectors that have wide molding around them.
